How to apply for membership of the Michigan Society of the American Institute of Building Design.

How to Apply for Membership

1. Prepare the following:

  1. The application form or the associate enrollment form, including the all relevant information listed below.
  2. Three letters of recommendation (from builder or contractor, building official, architect, engineer, or AIBD certified professional building designer or a professional building designer) that attests to familiarity with the applicant's professional abilities. [Only one letter is required by drafting technician applicant. Design student please provide proof of enrollment/maintenance of a 2.0 GPA in lieu of recommendation letters. Allied-level applicants do not need to supply letters.]
  3. Three sets of separate working drawings (professional building designer and building designer applicants only) for projects the applicant personally prepared. Professional building designer applicants only must meet the AIBD minimum plan standards.
  4. Employment verification letters (not needed for student or associate-level applicants).

2. Refer to the "Membership Fees" to determine your first year's dues.

3. Send your application, letter (of recommendation and those for employment verification), plans (if applicable) and appropriate dues check to:
